Self-esteem isn't something you either have or don't have — it's something you build, one small choice at a time. These five habits take just a few minutes each day, but practised consistently they can completely change the way you see yourself.
1. Start the day with one kind sentence about yourself
Before you reach for your phone, say one true, kind thing about yourself out loud. It can be small: "I am a good friend," "I work hard," "I have a beautiful smile." Your brain listens to your own voice more than anyone else's.
2. Celebrate one small win
At the end of the day, write down one thing you did well — finishing your homework, being kind to someone, trying something new. Wins don't have to be big to count.
3. Move your body for 10 minutes
Dance, walk, stretch, skip — anything that gets you moving. Movement releases feel-good chemicals in your brain and reminds you that your body is strong and capable.
4. Notice one negative thought and reframe it
When you catch yourself thinking "I can't do this" or "I'm not good enough," pause and ask: would I say this to my best friend? Then say something kinder to yourself instead.
5. Surround yourself with what lifts you up
Curate your feed, your playlist, and the people you spend time with. Follow accounts that celebrate girls who look like you. Mute anything that makes you feel less.
"You don't have to feel confident to act with confidence. Act first — the feeling follows."
